Radim Langer (*1985), painter, poet, writer and theorist presents his latest paintings, which are the result of a long-term and continuous process of searching for an authentic painting surface. The effect of the image lies in the tension between the material and the ephemeral, between the light source and its crystallization. “Painting is the result of a way of experiencing the world through the ancient mythical truth about the presence of life in every piece of matter. For me, painting means the sculptural conquest of light. The image as a light and sound source” is how the author himself characterizes his work. The title of the exhibition refers to Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, to the spiritual dimension and transcending human boundaries.
For the author, the relationship to painting as a craft is important, his images are created in their long dialogue and in the overlapping layers a new vital reality emerges. Langer strives for a polished state. The privilege of the image is the secret of movement and beauty in stillness. The paintings are energy jewels, changing biotopes, light formations and glimpses into new worlds. They bear traces of landscape fragments, animal bodies, fossil and magmatic layers, plants, mushrooms, etc. – personal experiences of the painter.
“It is extremely important for me in the creative process to remain open to surprise and to transformation, to the fact that I don’t have to know what the painting will look like in the end.”
