Eva Sakuma (*1975, Prague) combines personal experience with Japanese landscape painting and European pointillist fragmentalization to create multi-layered views of landscapes, interiors, still-lifes, and figure painting. Her paintings’ contemplative and intimate nature is further underscored by a raster of dots that gives the depicted scenes a sense of the mysterious. The title Portrait of Koro is taken from the exhibition central painting, which depicts a Japanese censer, an essential symbol of Japanese traditions.
