This year’s Day of Sound in Images will be dedicated to celebrating the 30th anniversary of Kutná Hora’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The all-day event, taking place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, will be held in the Baroque spaces of the former Jesuit College, the Chapel of the Corpus Christi, and the Church of St. James. Within A Day of Sound, renowned Czech and international performers will be featured – Canadian audiovisual artist Nicolas Bernier, one of Austria’s most fascinating contemporary composers Klaus Lang, soprano and choral artist Barbora Kabátková with the trio Romanovská – Tichý – Hrubý, and Italian percussionist Elia Moretti. Under the artistic direction of composer Jan Trojan, leading saxophonist Miroslav Tóth, accordionist Roman Zabelov, and audiovisual artist Linda Arbanová will also perform.
This seventh edition of the festival, organized by the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region (GASK), is once again curated by composer and music journalist Michal Rataj.
What Awaits Us This Year?
Visual Playrooms at GASK / Lecturers’ Center Studios (14:00 – 16:00)
The youngest visitors can participate in creative workshops led by composer and music educator Darja Kukal Moiseeva.
Baroque Pharmacy (14:00 – 20:00)
Throughout the day, visitors can experience a sound cinema – a space for uninterrupted listening to immersive sound compositions, where images emerge from sound.
GASK Exhibitions (15:00, 17:30)
Visitors will be guided through Labyrinth, the permanent exhibition at GASK, by Italian percussionist Elia Moretti. Through his innovative use of an extensive percussive palette, he will create a parallel sound world to the (audio-)visual experience of the exhibits. The sound walk will be introduced by exhibition curators.
Chapel of the Corpus Christi (16:00 – 17:00)
The Chapel of the Corpus Christi, adjacent to GASK and St. Barbara’s Church, will resonate with music spanning centuries. A quartet of top Czech musicians, led by soprano Barbora Kabátková, a leading European interpreter of Gregorian chant and early medieval music, will perform. As part of the festival, she will also play the medieval harp and psaltery, accompanied by the Romanovská – Tichý – Hrubý trio.
Baroque Refectory (18:30 – 19:30)

A mesmerizing audiovisual performance by Canadian artist Nicolas Bernier. One of today’s most exciting audiovisual creators, Bernier blends live projection with virtuosic analog synthesizer performance, immersing the audience in a powerful audiovisual experience within the monastery’s Baroque refectory.
Church of St. James (20:00 – 20:45)
The Church of St. James will serve as the final stop on a sonic journey between spirituality and imagination. The first part of the evening concert will feature four artists under the artistic direction of composer Jan Trojan. His works have been performed in venues such as the Convent of St. Agnes, the Church of St. Salvator, and various historic churches across the Czech Republic.
Joining him in this liturgical space will be acclaimed saxophonist Miroslav Tóth and accordionist Roman Zabelov. The site-specific video projection will be crafted by Linda Arbanová, known for her collaboration on projects such as the unique “revitalization” of frescoes in the monastery refectory at St. Giles Church in Prague.
Church of St. James (21:00 – 22:00)
The festival’s final concert will be performed by one of Austria’s most compelling contemporary composers, Klaus Lang. His organ recital will include liturgical works from early medieval France as well as his own compositions, interwoven with improvisation. For Klaus Lang, music is “time made audible.” As we listen to this concept of music in the sacred space of the church, we descend somewhere deeper, perhaps even into the depths, engaging in a dialogue with our inner selves.
A Day of Sound can be visited with a ticket for GASK’s rotating exhibitions. The ticket also grants free entry to the new permanent exhibition Labyrinth, the exhibition Mysův Horn by Veronika Šrek Bromová, Markéta Othová, and Kateřina Vincourová, as well as an exhibition by animator Pavel Koutský and other current showcases. Access to the children’s play area and visual playrooms is also included.
