A DAY OF SOUND 2026 – THE JOURNEY
A day of sound at GASK
27 June 2026 • GASK — Kutná Hora
Every edition of A Day of Sound is a new adventure. This year’s will be a JOURNEY. A journey on which we are listeners exploring what it is like when images begin to emerge from our imagination amidst works of art in the gallery or surrounded by the stunning architecture of Kutná Hora – and all thanks to sound!
The sound of a diverse range of compositions and musical performances first leads us through various parts of the gallery. We then let ourselves be carried away to the Chapel of Corpus Christ and the Church of St. Barbara, and in the end we return to the GASK gardens for an open-air closing concert on the water stage in the form of experimental sets by Polish composer Robert Piotrowicz and that stalwart of the Czech scene, Lenka Dusilová.

The Baroque Refectory will be filled with the sounds of TOŠA (CZ), a captivating duo consisting of multigenre musicians Klára Pudláková (bass) and Michal Wróblewski (alto saxophone) who move freely across musical worlds. A set full of unpretentious virtuosity, musical diversity and soothing sounds.

An exhibition opening introduced by the sounds of Barbora Tomášková (SK), whose captivating electroacoustic assemblage of sound objects will accompany the art of Filip Černý.
5:30pm – Chapel of Corpus Christi
Laug Sonoris – an ensemble of young Czech-Slovak musicians
At the Chapel of Corpus Christi, an instrumental ensemble composed of young graduates of Prague’s HAMU takes us on a tour of contemporary acoustic music. Under the direction of conductor Patrik Kako (SK), the Laug Sonoris ensemble performs a series of unusual compositions that – thanks to the magical acoustics of this amazing Gothic space – reveals the diversity of the contemporary music scene.
6:45pm – Church of St. Barbara
Matouš Hejl & Veronika Svobodová (CZ) Site-specific composition
Composers Matouš Hejl and Veronika Svobodová (CZ) have written an entirely new composition for the Church of St. Barbara. Titled Invisible Gardens, it is a mix of organ with field recordings, live vocals and recorded spoken word, performance and spatial sound, fragments of Gregorian chants and contemporary music. A blend of light touches of contemporary spirituality with ancient liturgical tradition.
EVENING PROGRAM — MAIN STAGE (GASK Gardens)
8pm
Robert Piotrowicz (PL) Electronic drone performance
8:45pm
Lenka Dusilová — solo experimental set
Just before sunset, we will move from St. Barbora’s Church to the water stage in the GASK gardens for an evening concert that takes place literally between two worlds. The first is the intense electronic drone created by Polish composer and sound Robert Piotrowicz (PL) on his modular synthesizers. The evening then concludes with an experimental set by that mysterious figure of the Czech music scene Lenka Dusilová, an artist whose inimitable vocal style and lifelong search for new creative outlets is a source of inspiration for us all.
26–29 June Baroque cellar — Adaptation – an interactive audiovisual installation by Anežka Hlinková
An adaption that combines elements of nature and technology. A response to the frustration of being overwhelmed by technology and an expression of the need for a quiet space. An object inspired by a butterfly cocoon is illuminated using a projector and accompanied by a set of speakers with a soundtrack simulating the sonosphere around the object. The viewers remain inside the work as an outside element – through touch, they open and close the installation’s gate and thus control the flow of the signal. This audiovisual installation reflects the need for people to adapt to the contemporary world and encourages conscious awareness and setting one’s boundaries.
Every day at 3pm, curator Veronika Marešová (GASK) will join to artist in giving a guided tour (ca. 15 min.) of the work.
It will be an adventurous journey, perhaps in some ways a surprising one, but it will definitely be enriching. If you would like to share with us a completely new experience of sound among images, please accept this journey as the overall objective of A Day of Sound 2026, a journey guided by the festival’s main programmer, the composer and HAMU professor Michal Rataj.
