Sound in images across genres, time and geography

Kutná Hora’s GASK holds the seventh edition of A Day of Sound

On Saturday, 14 June 2025 Kutná Hora will host the A Day of Sound festival, organised by the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region (GASK) as part of the thirtieth anniversary of the city’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The festival combines music and visual arts on the premises of three historical buildings – the Jesuit College, the Chapel of Corpus Christi and the Church of St James. Visitors can look forward to concerts of old and contemporary music, audiovisual performances, tours filled with sound and art and music workshops for children. The Baroque pharmacy in the Jesuit College will host a ‘sound cinema’, and the Church of St James will feature a site-specific video projection. This year’s seventh edition of the festival is once again organised by the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region under the direction of composer and music journalist Michal Rataj.

The programme features leading domestic and international performers. Canadian artist Nicolas Bernier presents a stunning audiovisual performance in the Jesuit College’s refectory; soprano and choralist Barbora Kabátková, accompanied by the trio of Romanovská – Tichý – Hrubý, performs a Gregorian chorale in the Chapel of Corpus Christi; and top saxophonist Miroslav Tóth, accordionist Roman Zabelov and audiovisual artist Linda Arbanová perform at the Church of St James under the aegis of composer Jan Trojan. The day’s closing concert will be by Austrian composer Klaus Lang, whose organ concert presents French liturgical compositions from the Early Middle Ages as well as his own organ compositions with improvisational elements. Over the course of the day, the gallery offers sonic tours of the permanent exhibition led by Italian percussionist Elia Moretti, a sound cinema in the Baroque pharmacy and art workshops for kids.

Admission to the festival is included in a ticket for the entire GASK buildings, which includes admission to all the ongoing exhibitions, the permanent exhibition Through the Labyrinth, and the visual playrooms.
