In the exhibition 80ies Liberty, students of UMPRUM’s Studio of Photography II explore their thoughts about freedom. They do not try to present an exact depiction of facts. The works reflect the collective memory of a generation that has no conscious memory of the eighties or even the first years of freedom in the nineties. Living in a fluid modernity – as the sociologist Zygmunt Bauman has called our era – they draw their ideas from the flow of fragmentary information and from impressions of the chaos of the digital space. In this way, the exhibition is an archaeological study of the mythology and ideas of one generation and their views of the 1980s and of freedom.
